Plate travels as steel-strapped bundles on wooden skids, often with interleaving paper and edge protection; polished sheet carries PVC film. Cold rolled coil ships eye-to-side or eye-to-sky with VCI wrapping. Bundle weights of 2 to 5 tonnes are typical for container loading.
On arrival, check bundle count, heat numbers against the MTC, thickness at several points, surface damage, water staining and film condition before signing the delivery note; claims after signature are difficult.
For sea freight, containers carry about 20 to 25 tonnes; heavy plate above container size ships breakbulk. Insure for the CIF value plus ten per cent.
